I grew up with a distorted view of my weight. Weighing 190 lbs. and being obese according to my BMI made me believe I was huge. I thought I was so disgusting and must have just looked like a fat slob to everyone who saw me. The weird part was that looking in the mirror, I never really though I looked that big--just more athletic I guess. I was insecure and in denial at the same time. So my response was to continue doing what I did before--I ate as before, I was still very sedentary, and my self-esteem continued to drop. My weight has always been a very confusing part of my life. Since I didn't know where I stood, I didn't know how to proceed.
So one day i just Googled "what does 190 lbs. and 5'4 look like" and the website mybodygallery.com came up. It was the answer to my dreams! The website allowed me to put in perspective what I possibly looked like. Seeing the images of the women allowed me to almost see myself from outside of myself and was really the pushing motivator that jump started my fitness journey.
Not only did I use the site to imagine myself, but I used it also to help me guide my goals. I would generate different searches of women at different weights and determine how I would like to see myself--sort of like inspiration of what I could be. It helps me realize that my original goal weight (inspired by society) was too skinny for me and not how I wanted to look.
I really love and appreciate this website. It allow women and girls to have a more realistic view of their bodies. Although I do believe this website is a great starting guideline, I still advise onlookers to remember, everyone is built differently!
So, now I am going to upload my image to My Body Gallery so hopefully I can help another struggling girl to have a more realistic view of their body and hopefully to be an inspiration and motivation for someone else. Please, join me!
